Case Report: How do I get a copy?
You will be asked to fill out a Release of Public Records form. Usually, only cases in which the criminal reports have been closed can the reports be released to the public. Customers must show photo identification.
There is a charge of $7.50 for the first 5 pages of an incident report and $.25 for each additional page. If extra research is needed, there may be an additional cost.

Background Checks
The La Plata County Sheriff's Office can do a local records check for La Plata County only for a cost of $10. Please click on the online records request link above to submit your request.
If a more extensive search is desired, please utilize Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Records Check. For a fee, you can obtain the Colorado state criminal history from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations. You will need the name and date of birth for the person you are inquiring about.
